Abstract :
The installation and operation of pilot production lines at both the Yuasa Battery Company and the NGK Spark Plug Company for manufacturing 300 Ah Na-S cells and beta"-alumina tubes at a rate corresponding to 50 cells per day is discussed. A proposed plan for assembling these cells into 20 thermally insulating casings to make up a 1 MW/8 MWh Na-S battery energy storage system to be tested at a utility site is also discussed
