Abstract :
Cross-Layer Optimization has been widely studied by researchers in recent years. Various design schemes have been proposed for the purpose of enhancing performance of the resource restricted, error-prone wireless networks. F. Fu and M. van der Schaar proposed an autonomous cross-layer design in which each Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) layer manages the optimization locally with very little message exchange between adjacent layers. This method avoids violating the layered network architecture of the OSI model protocol stack. In this paper, we present an improved version of the autonomous cross-layer optimization to fit modern mobile communication networks. With the rapid development of electronic devices, people retrieve various information from different sources. In our design, we take into consideration of different Quality of Service (QoS) requirements for different information when selecting the optimal modulation scheme and retransmission limit. After applying this modification, the system processing duration is reduced to a half of the original design while the overall performance is well preserved. This new system saves considerable computation resources of the resource constrained wireless devices and adapts to various data sources quickly.
