Replaying lecture recordings on handheld devices

With the rapid growth of ubiquitous computing, especially in educational environment, Mobile Learning has emerged as a new type of learning, which utilizes mobile technologies to deliver electronic learning materials to students anywhere and at any time. It can also provide teachers with electronic training solutions. Although many researchers argue that using handheld devices for E-learning activities has high potential, the number of actual applications remains low. This paper proposes a new approach to replaying lecture recordings on Personal Digital Assistant (PDA). A prototype has been designed and implemented. We also conducted a survey on the usability and user acceptance of the prototype, where we compared PDA playback to PC playback. The result shows that PDA is a good candidate as a complementary tool for learning. The prototype fully supports the data format of recorded lectures and is proved to be a stable version to replay lecture recordings.
