Leadership professionals competency in managing sustainable tourism events: Items validity

This paper examined and testing the competency levels of events tourist leaders in dealing with skills and knowledge for strategic leadership and management issues. In order to make it more meaningful and valuable, although there is abundance of tourism industry practices and activities, there appears to be unclear definition of what actually is the task for leadership professional among tour event leaders. Therefore, this paper had collated and considered the attributes which was determined by those professional bodies and in line with the demands of the industry. A 23-item to measure leadership professionals´ competency in managing sustainable tourism events was developed. Evaluation of the mean square infit and outfit suggests the data exhibited, fit the model. Further, responses to the statements in the questionnaire showed greater consistency and higher reliability coefficient. Competency in managing systems in full operational condition at all times for sustainable events appears to be at the highest logit and is more difficult to attain than the rest of the other criteria. The results of this paper also confirm the robustness of the International Standards Organization´s model of evaluation level of leadership competency standard in events industry.
