Abstract
Obtaining long system lifetime as well as maintaining sufficient surveillance to targets is one of the most important challenges in the design of wireless sensor surveillance network. The effective lifetime of system is defined and then a hierarchical scheduling scheme is presented, in order to reduce the communication overhead and prolong the effective lifetime of system in differentiated surveillance. Simulations show that better performance in effective lifetime and fault-tolerance can be achieved with the scheme than most other schemes.
