Abstract :
FM/AM noise measurement equipment in which a resonator cavity is used as a discriminator to measure the noise of a single oscillator is described. A very-high-Q reflection-type tunable cavity and a circulator are used as the FM discriminator. The threshold for FM noise measurement is -120 dBc/Hz (f=50 kHz). For AM noise measurement it is -158 dBc/Hz (f=50 kHz). FM and AM noise measurement results for a Gunn oscillator and a phase-locked signal source at 8-mm waveband with an uncertainty of about 3 dB are given.<>
