Abstract :
A large variety of nanostructures including surface roughening, photonic crystals and plasmonics has been applied to light-emitting diodes in order to improve their performance. This paper gives an overview of the different approaches and the obtained results and compares their relevance for commercial LED applications, focussing on solid-state lighting.
