Abstract
With the advances in mobile terminals and wireless communications, the demand for mobile devices to run heavier applications (e.g., those running on their desktop PC) is on increase. Offloading is a novel approach to leverage the severity of resource constrained nature of mobile devices by migrating part of the computation of pervasive services to some nearby resource-rich surrogates (e.g., base stations, desktop PCs, servers). This paper proposes a runtime offloading system for pervasive services that considers multiple types of system resources and carries out service partitioning and partition offloading in a more adaptive and efficient manner. The system´s service partitioning algorithm and partition offloading mechanism are presented in detail. The evaluation outcomes have indicated a higher level of efficiency of this service offloading system
