Abstract :
A study of a wood-polymer material is presented. An aluminium-oxide coating is deposited by electron-beam evaporation in order to increase the electric insulating properties of the material. The surface electrical resistivity and dielectric losses of the source and surface-modified material, which depend on the temperature and moisture condition, have been examined. Measurements of some other electric insulating characteristics are presented in a tabular form. The results show that the electric insulating properties of the Al2 O3-coated polymer material are considerably increased. The variation of the wear resistance of the coated samples has also been studied. When the polymer-to-wood ratio is 1:1 and the coating is a few microns thick, the optimum values of the electric insulating properties and mechanical strength are obtained
