Abstract
In MPLS network, VC-Merge has been presented as the most likely implementation to offer scalable multipoint-to-point forwarding at ATM-LSR. The additional buffer requirements in the VC-Merge mechanism are not desired. SEAM is a typical paradigm of VC-Merge technique. In this paper, based on SEAM, we propose a new multipoint-to-point forwarding mechanism - DMISCT (dynamic multiple identifiers store-cut-through) to minimize the need for additional buffer at ATM-LSR. By dynamically assigning multiple connection identifiers per connection, DMISCT leads to a large reduction in the additional buffer requirements and an effective utilization of the VPI/VCI space. The simulation results show that there is a remarkable reduction in buffer requirements and packet delay for DMISCT in contrast to SEAM based on traditional VC-Merge technique.
