Abstract
The authors examine the forms of parallel processing that will evolve to meet the demands of applications involving massive amounts of data. This situation is to be distinguished from more common forms of massive computing such as massive processing of a limited amount of data, or serial processing of a massive amount of data. Parallel processing will very likely become dominant in the next decade. Many of the problems addressed involve both massive amounts of data and massive amounts of parallel computation
