  • Abstract
The fabrication and design of electrochromic smart windows based on anodically coloring conductive polymers and cathodically coloring transition-metal oxides are described. Some fundamental and practical aspects of the complementary five-layer transmissive electrochromic devices are presented. The electrochromic layers are prepared by new large-surface coating techniques. Solid, gelled, or glassy polymers were used as ionically conductive electrolytes. The electrochemical and optical characteristics of all solid-state, five-layer, electrochromic devices are discussed
