  • Abstract
This paper mainly analyzes the connection establishment phase within an InterWorking Unit (IWU), which interconnects an ATM network and Euro-ISDN network, in terms of network interworking and service interoperability. Thus, such an IWU operates as a gateway between these two networks, which differ in the transmission techniques that they use, as well as, in the services that they provide to their subscribers. The IWU handles the information of the control plane (out of band signalling) and the user data, to restore an end-to-end connection between subscribers of the two networks. Also, in this work the mapping of the user data is presented
