  • Abstract
    PRIME is an open protocol standard for reliable power line communications aimed at fulfilling the future smart grid requirements. Its definition is the result of a project launched by Iberdrola which has involved several participants included STMicroelectronics. This paper describes in details the PRIME protocol stack characteristics and its first implementation in an industrial system on chip platform, named STarGRID™, which has been specifically developed by STMicroelectronics to effectively address new emerging smart metering and smart grid standards. Particular emphasis will be given to the STarGRID™, innovative architecture and to the related PRIME implementation experimental results.
