Abstract :
A system was designed to assist commercial airline pilots and dispatchers in flight planning en route. The concepts incorporated into the system are discussed. They led to two very different forms of representation: an analogical representation and a constraint satisfaction representation. While each representation has its own weaknesses, the combined use of both representations may alleviate them
