Abstract :
The detection and location of termites in building structures involves near field sensing with RADAR arrays, where the plane wave assumption does not apply. In this paper, we explore a number of enhancements to the matrix pencil direction of arrival (DOA) algorithm, including augmentation with beamforming methods, which allow it to operate in the Fresnel Region, using a hybrid array which combines random and uniform planar array geometry. The results from simulations show that such a hybrid array can operate in the near field, even when there are coherent, interfering signals from other sources.
