Abstract :
This paper considers the problem of determining the maximum throughput of a region of airspace given two intersecting flows of aircraft. Aircraft in each flow are able to execute an instantaneous change in lateral and/or longitudinal position to resolve potential conflicts. By taking into account constraints on the magnitude of deviations, which can be related to limitations in aircraft performance, increased structure is placed on each flow to ensure feasible and safe trajectory solutions. This structure imposes a limit on the maximum admissible throughput of the airspace, thereby defining a measure of airspace capacity under constrained maneuvers at an intersection.
