Abstract :
Sustainability has been becoming a crucial issue for the present and future manufacturing, and thus the concept of sustainable manufacturing has attracted more attention from academia and industry. Aiming at the energy-efficiency, this paper presents a service-oriented framework of sustainable manufacturing, in which the energy-efficient manufacturing approaches are used to conduct the operations of the manufacturing resources in a job shop, while the cloud manufacturing is utilized to enable a service business model for users in the whole life cycle of products and production processes. Moreover, the methodologies, that to support the realization of the functionalities of the proposed framework, are also discussed, so as to enable the framework to cope with the dynamic changes in the manufacturing processes, and also to achieve the sustainable benefits such as cost-effectiveness, real-time response, improved adaptability, environmental friendliness, robustness, etc.
