Abstract :
This paper examines the efficiency of advanced traffic management techniques in reducing carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from passenger cars. Towards this goal, a microscopic traffic simulation model was built for Toronto to track individual vehicles´ movements in detail for the duration of their entire trip. In order to predict the level of emissions, a simple and robust microscopic CO2 emissions model was used. By integrating the emissions model into the traffic simulation model the possible impacts of controlling instantaneous vehicular operating conditions on CO2 emissions were investigated
