Abstract :
This paper describes JARToolKit, a Java binding for the ARToolkit (ART). Currently, the use of ART is mainly restricted to programmers who develop applications using C/C++. Artists and domain experts are often not able to access it because they are used to high level languages like Java, Lingo or scripting approaches. Using Java´s native interface (JNI) it is possible to access ART functionality via Java and the use of different rendering libraries allows high level access (Java3D) as well as low level access (GL4Java) to computer generated 3D content. Using Java as wrapper, our approach also provides an object-oriented interface to the AR toolkit. This will enable domain experts to use the AR toolkit for their work and increase the possible number of users.
