Abstract :
Three criteria are suggested to help design a Clinical Decision Support System (CDSS) that would have a better chance of being successfully deployed in a clinical environment. These criteria have been successfully applied to a CDSS designed to estimate outcomes for neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) patients. The CDSS was deployed in a pilot study at the Children´s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO)´s NICU. The results of the study showed that the accuracy was deemed acceptable by the physicians and the CDSS would meet their expectations when ready for deployment in a clinical environment.
