Abstract
Software quality is decomposed into two complementary aspects. The first aspect is software metrics to show how well the code is currently performing, and at what rate it is improving through test or deployment. The second aspect deals with the roots of software quality in the underlying development process. Specific quality initiatives that have been found to have significant payback are discussed. The beneficial coupling with metrics is demonstrated
