Abstract :
The reasons for the choice of stemmed, vessel-mounted, acoustic Doppler current profiler (ADCP) transducers for two of the research ships of The Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) are discussed. Hull modifications and specially designed fittings which were necessary for operational purposes and to meet the requirements of the ship´s Classification Society are given in detail. Problems encountered during installation and removal while the ship was afloat are discussed, and some solutions offered. Some operational problems which have been encountered are highlighted
