Abstract
The authors describe the operational experience obtained from the utilization, maintenance and development of the System Operation Training Simulator (SOTS) of the China Light and Power Co. Particular emphasis is placed on the simulation of a total power system shutdown, and the subsequent initiation of the restoration procedure. Although SOTS was not originally designed for such simulation, enhancement in-house to the simulation software has made possible the simulation of the system shutdown and restoration. Training scenarios, instructor and trainee comments and experiences, evaluation guidelines, database maintenance considerations, and some simulation problems encountered are presented and discussed. Some suggestions are made in regard to the additional requirements for future SOTS specification.<>
