Abstract :
It is of great significance to adopt an appropriate data transmission strategy for energy-limited wireless sensor networks to achieve maximum lifetime. In this paper, we propose an energy aware transmission control scheme to determine the transmission assignment aimed at prolonging network lifetime, as well as reducing network load and end-to-end delay. This scheme makes a joint transmission control dealing with three issues, including transmission scheduling, energy efficient routing and energy consumption balancing. It is implemented in two phases, in which transmitters and receivers are selected and transmission links are then determined. Simulation results indicate that our proposed data transmission control scheme achieves an approximately 30% increase in network lifetime and a 20% decrease in network load compared with other existing control algorithms. Besides, our transmission control method also has good performances in terms of energy consumption rate and transmission delay.
