Abstract :
The author addresses terminology problems in the computer industry and recommends guidelines for systematizing terminology. It is noted that the computer industry lacks a systematized method of terminology control. Because of this, communication lacks precision, exactness of term, and definition. It is recommended that, to standardize terminology, definitions must be generic, terms concrete, jargon eliminated, and synonyms restricted. Particular attention is given to systems application architecture (SAA) terminology, an outgrowth of IBM´s effort to standardize the industry´s terminology and meet the need for precision in expression and communication.<>
