Abstract
Recent theories about the brain have changed one´s picture of how the brain works. The right brain/left brain dichotomy theory of the 1960s and 1970s is being replaced by a more complex model. It is noted that one of those models, the modular mind theory of R. Jackendoff (1989), a linguist, has important applications for document design in technical communication because his theory could lead to a general theory of document design.<>
