Abstract :
This paper describes a simple, computationally inexpensive approach for automatically detecting coastline with respect to multispectral and spatial information in a NOAA AVHRR (Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer) image. This approach is used to automatically identifying GCPs (Ground Control Points); and then, using these GCPs to implement accurate geometric correction of NOAA AVHRR images. Experimental results show that: with this coastline detection approach the accurate geometric correction of NOAA AVHRR images can achieve subpixel accuracy (less than 1 pixel)
