Abstract :
We have seen that fiber optic technology demand has been increased due to increase in the demand of higher bandwidth. Ethernet passive optical network (EPON) is being the most promising technology in the optical access network to provide with such a high bandwidth requirements. EPONs are inexpensive, simple and scalable solution for access network and can deliver integrated broadband services to the end users in a very efficient way. EPON has the bandwidth but to efficiently utilizing it some dynamic bandwidth allocation algorithm is required, which is a hot issue in this area of research. Through dynamic bandwidth allocation algorithm we can achieve better QoS. We have proposed a framework that classifies the dynamic bandwidth allocation algorithms proposed for EPON. This framework gives us a better understanding of how many ways different algorithms can be developed.
