Abstract
The thermoelectric generator (TEG), a device that converts heat directly into electricity, can supply electric power to a heater and at same time act as a heat exchanger, transferring heat to the cooling medium. The adaptation of a thermoelectric generator to a particular commercial heater, the HL-32D, is discussed. HL-32D is a diesel-fired heater with an 11000-BTU/h hot air output and a power consumption of 32 W at 12 V DC. The discussion covers the prototype system, HL-32D performance study, 50-A TEG, DC-DC converter limit, and system test. Application to vehicles or boats operating in northern climates is intended
