Abstract :
This paper describes some new results with respect to the classic problem of the component-to-pin ratio for hierarchical (heterogeneous) systems. Generalization of Rent´s rule, providing greater accuracy and extending the domain of applicability to hierarchical systems, is presented. Based on this new rule, estimations of average interconnection lengths for 1D- and 2D-cases are deduced. The new estimations have been found to produce very satisfactory results on test and industrial systems
