Abstract
The paper outlines the development of the architecture of a fast codebook search algorithm for adaptive vector quantization (AVQ) speech coding. Because the algorithm is input vector independent, it is predictive in nature. Simulations showed that the proposed new algorithm could produce intelligible speech much faster than the original AVQ algorithm as well as allow for a decreased bit-rate. However, the algorithm showed strongly undesirable amplitude dependencies
