Abstract
The paper presents an approach to the calculation of electromagnetic transients on transmission lines. The proposed method permits significant computer time saving by avoiding numerical difficulties such as convolution integration and FFT. An original procedure based on Laplace Transform, travelling waves and the principle of superposition is presented, providing relatively simple analytical expressions for determining the current and voltage at the transmission line ends with initial potential and current distributions. Transient responses of lossy transmission lines are simulated and the comparison between the proposed model and EMTP is done
