Abstract :
A short-cut method for the optimization of the swept volume ratio based on isothermal analysis is presented. A generalized Beale number is derived as an optimization criterion for various regenerative cycles. Results are presented for three cycles: the Stirling cycle, the Vuilleumier cycle, and a third regenerative cycle that is introduced here. The results are verified by a generalized adiabatic analysis
