Abstract
Considering the increased importance in assessing and controlling short circuit levels in electric networks of densely populated areas, this paper presents; first, a summary of available and potential future solutions to control fault currents; and second, a structured procedure for controlling short circuit levels for a large metropolitan area. This procedure starts with an assessment of short circuit currents in the study horizon, goes through the application of control measures, and ends with evaluating the performance of the complete power system with the proposed solutions.
