Abstract :
The paper deals with a fuzzy syntactic approach to the interpretation of noisy two dimensional images. It reports on how we have modified the graph grammar formalism to utilise fuzzy functions in the applicability predicates. As far as we are aware, this represents the first such modification of graph grammars. The capabilities of this new formalism for coping with noise are currently being tested in the context of handwritten music score recognition and preliminary results are presented
