Abstract :
Currently, DSL is the dominant technology for FBN, mainly ADSL/2/21-. Besides the power consumption increasing trend from DSL evolution from ADSL/2/2+ to VDSL2 (and vectoring), we should pay more attention on the great potential of power saving from the legacy ADSL/2/2+ network´s, through software upgrading and/or optimization but not hardware replacement. In lab validation, Green DSL solution for legacy network, including but not limited to line card level powering control, DSL port level status control, Max SNR margin limitation and ADSL2/2+ L2 low power state, shows huge energy saving potential up to 30+ percent. But for real network, too many factors will influence the Green DSL reform results, such as the copper loop length, the line rate, the SNR margin configuration, the functions´ compatibility from CPE, the payload traffic variation, etc. So, we need some fine, precise, comprehensive and long-time network condition data´s´ collection and analysis, for a more accurate energy saving evaluation for Green DSL in-field mass implementation. Through this way, the DSL carriers could have better understanding and clearer control for their CO2 reduction target.
