Abstract :
Highly shaped beam dielectric lens antennas were proven to be a viable solution for wireless broadband communications at millimetre waves. The coverage area of these lenses is directly related to antenna installation height, so this parameter may indirectly impact on multipath interference in indoor pico-cell environments, and thus influence system performance. Wall reflections can cause unwanted signal time dispersion and fading but, on the other hand, these reflections are needed when line of sight is blocked. In order to optimise the coverage and time dispersion in the propagation scenario, some dielectric lens antenna configurations are studied in terms of height positioning in the room, polarisation and radiation pattern. Based on simulated and measured results, guidelines are presented to improve the relevant propagation channel figures and allow for high data rate transmission
