Abstract
In competitive environment, it becomes possible for third parties such as IPPs or other participants to deliver their power to the main grid. Key information used to determine how much power can be transferred through the transmission network is known as total transfer capability or TTC. System operator must report this index to all participants in order to let them evaluate themselves before making any transaction. The calculation method for area-based TTC or the maximum power that can be reliably transferred between two areas is focused in this paper. First, this proposed method formulates the problem in a linearized form. Then, to determine the area-based TTC, an optimization technique is used. The proposed method is tested with IEEE-118 bus system. Satisfactory results are obtained.
