Abstract :
This paper present a two-stage electronic ballast for high power metal halide lamp. The two-stage electronic ballast is composed of a buck-boost lossless pre-regulator to achieve high power factor with lamp power control, and full-bridge inverter to drive the metal halide (MH) lamp at low frequency square wave. Due to its low frequency operation, no acoustic resonance occurs. Finally, a laboratory prototype of a 400 W MH electronic ballast is implemented. The experimental resulted the proposed ballast can operate at power factor (PF) = 0.98 and efficiency = 91.95%.
