Abstract
It is desirable to build up a lecture video library, which enables students to see past lectures anytime and anywhere on their PCs. For this purpose, we have developed the lecture video player/maker system (Takahiro Yoshida et al., 2002). In the system, we have considered usability for students and operationality for teachers. The former includes the keyword access function, which enables jumping to the scenes related to keywords. The later includes automatic index generation after speech recognition of the whole lecture stream. We discuss the structure and functions of an ideal lecture video player and the importance of index corresponding to the scenes when the related keywords are spoken. We also show the experimental results of keyword extraction from three lecture streams. The evaluation of lecture videos and the developed player by students is also given.
