Abstract :
One of the important issues in indoor broadband wireless networks (IBWN) is how the users share the bandwidth. The polling-based multiple access protocols appear to be able to provide the flexibility and performance required for the traffic management in IBWN. In this paper a millimeter wave IBWN with multimedia input traffic is considered. The non-limited gated polling scheme is examined and found to offer poor performance for the bursty and delay sensitive traffic. Then the fully gated limited polling is considered. It was found that there is an optimum value for the visiting frequency (polling cycle time), and service limit for a certain type of traffic. Based on this conclusion, the non-uniform polling method is proposed to improve the performance of the system. This system is evaluated and found to have good performance in handling the requirements of multimedia services in IBWN
