Abstract :
This paper outlines the results of an investigation into the influence that tidal currents have on the dynamics, performance and side-scan sonar coverage for the REMUS 100 Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV). The effect that tidal currents have on the vehicle is explored through a number of realistic simulated mine countermeasure operations that cover a wide range of operating scenarios for the vehicle. The representativeness of this modeling capability is established by comparing simulation results with those obtained from field trials. Recommendations for vehicle operation are identified and directions for future work are also provided.
