Abstract :
This paper presents a comparative evaluation of regenerative and nonregenerative vector controlled variable voltage variable frequency (VVVF) drives for AC gearless elevators. The study includes a detailed analysis of energy consumption, line voltage and current harmonics, elevator machine room heat generated, input power factor and peak demand for each elevator control system. The input voltage and current waveforms are presented for both regenerative and nonregenerative drives to show the clean power nature of the VVVF regenerative drive. Extensive test data from the field is also presented to validate the analysis
