  • Abstract
The authors discuss the implementation and evaluation of GT-VITA, an intelligent tutoring system for training novice satellite ground controllers. Besides being a tutor, GT-VITA illustrates the tutor/aid paradigm in which the tutor evolves to an operator´s assistant as the operator´s domain expertise increases GT-VITA was developed in the context of the Payload Operations Control Center at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC). GT-VITA´s pedagogical features and functionalities are considered. GT-VITA has been evaluated with NASA personnel at GSFC: sixteen subjects were trained on GT-VITA. Results show that GT-VITA is effective in tutoring the knowledge and skills required of a satellite ground controller
