Abstract :
It is shown that returns to depot by the use of a field test collimator may be reduced significantly. Furthermore, if the field test collimator is made to be universal so that it can be used to test multiple forward looking infrared (FLIR) systems, it can result in further cost savings in the maintenance of FLIRs. The field test collimator used as an example can test minimum resolvable temperature difference (MRTD) and narrow to wide field of view boresight. The system must be simple and yet take into account the field environment and the users of the test system
