Abstract
Many training simulators have been developed for use by surgeons to undertake surgical procedures in training. In several cases, the simulators are demanding of computer time, physical space and are costly. We have designed a low cost versatile simulator that can be used almost anywhere and on most computer systems. With modifications, it can be used with other thrombectomy devices. We simulate its use with the GP Thrombus Aspiration Device (GPTAD)in the extraction of a blood clot from the Middle Cerebral Artery of the brain. We propose a 3-dimensional simulator with features that include a view along the axis of the artery as the GPTAD as it advances through the artery and approaches a blood clot causing obstruction of an artery.
