Abstract :
This paper presents nonlinear active switching filters for the DC side of phase-controlled rectifiers used in many high-power applications. Advantages of active switching filters over passive filters are discussed and two types of active switching filters are presented. The proposed shunt-type and series-type switching filters are designed to conduct only the harmonic currents and based on high-frequency switching converters with power rating fractional compared with that of the main AC/DC converter. The closed-loop control system is also discussed and design examples with simulation results are presented
