Abstract :
In recent years, there has been a worldwide growth in the exploitation of wind farms. Because of increasing wind generation, growing non-liner loads and competitive electricity markets the operation mechanism of power systems are facing some problems such as transient stability, voltage regulation, damping of power oscillation, power flow control, etc. Among shunt FACTS devices STATCOM has been recognized as a good tool and perfect compensator to solve these problems. So control strategies for STATCOM are continually changing. In this paper several techniques are discussed and compared in terms of performance and implementation.
