Abstract :
Storage of electrical energy can improve electric power system asset utilization, security, efficiency, reliability and performance and provide high quality, emergency or backup power. Several large-scale high-energy battery technologies hold promise of providing economical energy storage for a wide range of these power system and energy management applications. This panel paper presents attributes of the sodium sulfur battery, possible applications, system design considerations and describes the first US demonstration.
